Kung Fu Panda 3 flexes its muscles at
the North American box office, delivering $41 million on opening
weekend.
KFP3 is a China co-production. It’s the best stateside debut ever for a January toon and the third-best FSS opening for the month overall behind American Sniper ($89.3M) and Ride Along ($41.5M). KFP and KFP2 cleared $631.7M and $665.7M, respectively, in worldwide totals, and a $116.3M worldwide start for KFP3 from U.S., China, Russia and Korea is just fine.

Po the panda reunites with his long-lost
father in "Kung Fu Panda 3, for a solid opening weekend at the North
American box office, raking in 41 million dollars.
Also new this week, Disney's "The Finest Hours," about a
1950s Coast Guard rescue mission, starring Chris Pine and Casey Affleck.
But it couldn't keep pace with the pandas, generating
only modest returns of 10.3 million dollars for a fourth place finish.
That puts it behind Leonardo DiCaprio's "The Revenant",
in second place with 12.4 million, and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens",
in third place with 10.8 million.
With the best opening weekend of 2016 to date, "Kung Fu
Panda" fans have a lot to celebrate.
